Downtown Peterborough is a great place in many aspects, including family-friendly activities. From beautiful parks to the zoo and top-tier family cafes, downtown has it all. Let’s mention some of the best spots you would like to visit with the whole family.

Near Edmison Heights, just 5 minutes away by car, is Riverview Park & Zoo. It is the only free Canada Accredited Zoo and Aquarium (CAZA) facility in Canada. They feature over 40 animal species, including meerkats, river otters, and even an African Dwarf crocodile (it is really small compared to other crocodiles!).

Besides that, they have playgrounds, an 80-foot super slide, and picnic shelters. It is a well-rounded adventure with a little bit of everything for visitors of all ages.

A 7-minute car ride away is one of the most beautiful parks there is – Jackson Park. It is a 45-acre park, thoughtfully designed for people to enjoy nature and wildlife, have picnics, walk, hike, ride bikes, and sightsee places like Pagoda Bridge. For children, there are beautiful playgrounds, and for older people, this is a peaceful place where you can free your mind, which is priceless these days.

A bright, summer-day view of a pond in Jackson Park. The dark water reflects the clear blue sky and surrounding greenery. A large weeping willow hangs over the water on the left, and a small ornate gazebo is visible on the right bank. Trees and grass cover the park's edge in the background.

After seeing animals at the Zoo and walking a lot, you will definitely be hungry for a warm dinner. Good thing there are some spots near George Street Lofts that will satisfy all kinds of cravings.

BrickHouse Craft Burger, for example, has a number of benefits. It is really close (a 5-minute walk from the GSL location). They specialize in craft burgers with fresh ingredients, but their wings, pasta, and grilled cheese sandwiches are delicious for everyone. With big TVs and loud music, there won’t be any problems with kids running around. They also have a street-side patio, if you want to eat in the fresh air.

If you want something a bit more of a delicacy, visit Agave by Imperial, a Mexican cuisine restaurant with outstanding reviews praising their atmosphere, delicious food and brilliant service. They have a special kids menu, highchairs for children, and even changing tables in the bathroom. No one will feel left out.

The interior of a restaurant features long wooden tables, bar seating with red cushions, and dark walls adorned with vibrant artwork. Warm overhead lighting illuminates the dining area, creating a cozy atmosphere.
