The Art Gallery of Peterborough
Culture plays a big part in Peterborough’s history and modern life. To celebrate that and honor this rich heritage, we visit museums and galleries. One such gallery is so big and stunning that we wanted to tell you about it.
The Art Gallery of Peterborough (AGP) is a gallery with an outstanding design, housed in the beautifully restored historic MacDonald House. Today it is a modern 11,000-square-foot space, split into different areas to keep a dynamic and vibrant feel.
The gallery has over 1,800 pieces, including paintings, sculptures, photographs and more. The constantly changing exhibitions keep the schedule fresh and interesting.
The vision of the AGP is about building a community based on art appreciation. In their own words, the Gallery is “a gathering place that engages the community and promotes the arts as a cornerstone of community creativity and development.”
On the premises, there is also a gallery shop with art for sale, and other items like jewelry, ceramics, glasswork and more.
Admission is free, with donations welcome. The Gallery is about a 3-minute drive or a 20-minute walk south of the George Street Lofts, making it easily accessible. Choose the exhibition that interests you, or simply stop by – you won’t be disappointed.
