The Peterborough Public Library

External view of the Peterborough Public Library at dusk, showcasing its contemporary design, glass facade, and a lively sidewalk scene with visitors.

Located in Downtown Peterborough, The Peterborough Public Library is a modern community hub, renovated in 2018 and designed to feel more like a tech campus than a regular library.

This two-story 23,000-square-foot building feels like one big hall – it’s very open, with plenty of light and large windows. In the centre, a big staircase connects the floors.

It offers free Wi-Fi, charging stations, and study rooms (for individuals and groups).

The Library of Things initiative allows people to borrow and share things like coding bots, garden seeds, birdwatching kits, board games, and tools like CO2 monitors and thermal leak detectors. The full list is big and underscores the focus on sustainable use.

Various seminars and workshops are held here, including design and 3D printing, using the library’s own MakerBot Replicator 3D printer.

Admission is free for city residents, and since the Library is located just two blocks south of the GSL campus, it’s very convenient for students.
